How safe is the UWS in New York. Particularly 108th street between Columbus and Central Park West at night?

I found a great apartment on 108th street, between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West. Although a lovely area overall, this particular street is slightly sketchy I found while walking through, and also one block past Columbus too. Would it be safe to live here if I had to work late at night, past 10pm. The best train to take is the B or C, which is about a block away from the apartment. My roommate and I are two young girls, Asian and Indian. The neighborhood is largely hispanic and african american.
