Is church a good avenue for social networking even if I'm an atheist?

I want to network for job/career purposes....I want to meet friends in high places. I don't believe in God but is church a good way to do this/? Also, what type of church? My jewish friend explained that her synagogue was how she got all the best internships....Can I convert to Judaism and go to a synagogue?
